What a great article by Dr. Travis Bradbury published on LinkedIn.
Everyone knows how open I am about my alcoholism and addiction to cocaine and road in recovery. Everyone who knows me also knows that I hated leaving the University Career Center at The University of Texas at San Antonio in August of 2013. But I could no longer do my and be reliable because of my addictions.
I was truly blessed that after 49 postings and 9 interviews, finally someone said he belongs here at the University. Recently I was having a discussion with my oldest sister who unfortunately with her husband has been unemployed for almost three years. It was a very heated discussion at which point I stated I did not want to talk about her situation because she refuses to see that sometimes we have to do what we have to do. This means perhaps, even though you have made $50 per hour in the past you may have take an extremely deep cut to have job. Perhaps even a $10 and with all benefits job.
She likes to throw in my face not every employer will give someone a second chance, you are damn lucky. I refuse to say it was all luck. It was timing, and was the fact that I never gave up on wanting to come back to the University. In this article it discusses every single step that I took and continue to take to remain the best that I can be. I hope you enjoy the article as much as I did!
Until next time, that’s “What’s Rattling My Cage!”
