Autumn Leaves – The Politics at Hand

Great writing Sadie – I will add to it: You know I have been called a bleeding heart liberal democrat in the past, recently my brother-in-law stated that while I am a democrat I am really an old school republican. I agree with him because I have a lot of beliefs on the issues that are for the people, but also reflect my thinking that to much helping the people does the people more harm than good. Due to poor decisions in my life and being stripped of my right to vote at a very early age. That right was restored in 2008 just in time for me to vote in the election. I will proudly say that I voted for Barrack Obama then and again in 2012. Am I totally in love with his work during his time in office – not everything. The concern that I have always had since he was elected and even before he was sworn in the republicans and the new tea partyers were saying (I am paraphrasing) “you will not succeed in your presidency and we will make sure that you do not succeed.” You see we still live in a horribly jaded, bigoted, and non-tolerant country. The Constitution of The United States says that “All men are created equal”. There have been many changes to the constitution to make that statement true for women, people of color, etc. But we have also continued to show through our actions that there is no true EQUALITY in the United States. Do not even get me started on what individual states have done, because we could be here for days. We have term limits on the presidency, President Harry S. Truman, born in Lamar, Missouri where I was born, worked with congress and the senate to make it law. Why in the HELL do we NOT have term limits for our congressmen/women and our senators? As a country we are the true definition of insanity “continuing to do the same thing over and over expecting different results!” As long as the voters in this country that do turn out to vote continue to send the SAME INDIVIDUALS back OVER and OVER we will continue to get the same results out of Washington, D.C. – please note that this sentiment also stands for our individual states and how we send the same people over and over to the state senates and representatives. One of the biggest races to watch in the country during the mid-term elections is the gubernatorial race in my great State of Texas. Neither candidate for governor has completely blown me away, so I have to continue to work on my research and listen to both them in order to make a very informed decision. I do love the fall weather that will be arriving soon – but I do dread the election cycle, and yet we are already full steam ahead regarding the presidential election cycle of 2016 – who will run and who will win. Will we even be here for a 2016 election? Who Knows! These are the musings of my mind!

Sept 21 WordPress Daily Prompt: Autumn Leaves

Changing colors, dropping temperatures, pumpkin spice lattes: do these mainstays of Fall fill your heart with warmth — or with dread?

I have mentioned that politics do not dominate my landscape per say. But I have to admit, when I read this prompt, I couldn’t help but think of politics and how the mid-term elections are coming up. I have also heard that mid-term elections typically have poor turnouts, which I understand, as I myself have skipped a few over the years.

I have to tell you, I am now making it my business to know who is running and who I am voting for. We have got to start instilling some change in this country, in the way problems/issues/legislative actions are approached and then dispositioned, in the way those who WE elect into office represent us once they are elected, and in…

The Uzi Nightmare

I reblogging this because you expressed many things that are so relevant and so important.

But I am also reblogging because I recently saw on Good Morning America a piece where the children of the instructor at the gun range wrote a letter to the little girl. In the letter they expressed that they held no ill feelings toward her and that they were praying for her. Those children are so in tune with knowing and understanding that this little girl will have to live with this tragedy for the rest of her life. The sad thing is, at this point nobody could even know how this tragic event will affect her life as she continues on her journey through life.

The final thing that the instructor’s children said was that they wanted to meet the little girl and hug her and tell her that they loved her and forgave her for the tragic accident that took their father from them. How wonderful it is to know that there are still parents, teachers, and religious leaders that have touched those children’s lives and taught them the true meaning of love and forgiveness. The latest musing of my mind!!

Just something I was thinking about . . .

I am so sorry for that poor nine-year old girl who accidentally shot her range master/shooting instructor with an Uzi automatic submachine gun. This tragic accident happened at an Arizona popular tourist attraction called Bullets and Burgers(really??). They also broke their own rules, as shooters are supposed to be at least 10-years old. What in the world were they thinking when they all allowed this to happen. Someone with experience (like the range masters) should have been aware of the inherent danger of this activity.

The chief deputy for the Mohave County Attorney’s Office stated he did not fault the parents as they had placed their trust in the range master. I’m sorry, but I do fault the parents, as well as the range master and his establishment. THEY ALL should have known better than to allow this young girl to handle one of the most powerful weapons…

What Keeps You From Feeling Your Age?

Thank you Linda for this post! My partner and I have nine dogs and you know playing with them all the time releases me from feeling my age. I recently turned 48 and due to poor decisions and the disease of alcoholism and addiction, sometimes I feel much older. So the fact that all of my dogs can release me from having to be that age it is a BEAUTIFUL and FUN thing!!!

I stood at the kitchen counter yesterday, stirring Christopher’s medicine into his orange juice and I remembered learning to stir for the first time; I might have been three or four years old. It came back to me in a flash. My senses all conspired to bring me there: the sound of the spoon clinking around the inside the glass, the feel of the circular motion and the sight of my fingers manipulating the spoon in a way I no longer need to concentrate on.

Sometimes it’s the smell of freshly mowed grass, just as I recall it wafting in my bedroom window when my dad went out to mow the lawn before an early game of golf on a Sunday morning that takes me back. Or the taste of a shortbread cookie, dipped in a cup of tea.

Though many of my memories take me back to my childhood…

A Rant

I think that you could simply take out the information regarding your working for the paper and the rest is a perfect example of a letter to the editor. I live in San Antonio and I am constantly utilizing my editing skills and reviewing content in the only local newspaper. It is a shame that newspapers are no longer monitoring themselves.

I am officially ashamed of my job. The organization that prints and distributes the local newspaper that I deliver–that people pay good money for–needs to take a good, close look at itself and its practices. It’s no wonder subscriptions are on the decline. I’ve gone from having twenty-three customers to thirteen in the three years I’ve been doing the job.

Today, however, takes the proverbial cake.

The article in question (no, I won’t cite it for the following reasons:  a) I don’t want to advertise publicly where I live; b) the article is conspicuously absent from their website anyway; and c) I still work for them. For now.) is about a recent awareness-raising campaign entitled “Slut Walk.”

The annual Slut Walk, if you haven’t heard about it, is a tool to teach people (men mostly) that dressing like a slut isn’t an invitation for sexual assault. This, in and of…
